Rivers and Waterways

BEAR LAKE -Located on the outskirts of Barnum, it features a public boat landing, swimming beach, campground and fishing dock. Crappie, large mouth bass, northern and sunfish are the available fish species. There is a channel that connects Bear to Cub Lake, which also has a public fishing dock.

BENT TROUT LAKE -A privately owned lake stocked with trout. Other fish species are also available. A campground with all the amenities is also available.

BOB LAKE -A secluded little lake with a public boat launching area. Good fishing with a chance to catch crappie, northern, sunfish, and walleye. Easy access and no crowds.

BIG HANGING HORN LAKE -This lake features a public boat landing, campground, great fishing and recreational boating opportunities. Fishermen may catch sunfish, crappie, northern, music and walleye. Good fishing is also available from shore or through the use of a handicapped accessible fishing pier located on County Road 13.

LITTLE HANGING HORN LAKE - This lake features also features a public boat landing and good fishing. The Hanging Horn Village is located on its shores.

PARK LAKE - Located west of Mahtowa, this lake features a public boat landing, adjacent campground and waters well stocked with crappie, sunfish, walleye, northern and largemouth bass.

SANDY LAKE - (Carlton County) Located in the Blackhoof Valley region, this lake features a public boat landing in a private setting. Good fishing with opportunities to catch crappie, northern, sunfish and largemouth bass exist.

LOST LAKE - Only accessible by canoe, this lake is aptly named, but they say there are fish in there.

MOOSEHORN RIVER - This river meanders through the City of Barnum and provides not only trout and sucker fishing, but excellent canoeing.

BLACKHOOF RIVER - Located east of Barnum, this river provides good trout fishing.

NEMADJI RIVER - Another great trout fishing river, the Nemadji winds its way through the countryside east of Barnum.
