Emergency Response Organizations
FIRE DEPARTMENT: The City of Barnum along with Barnum and Skelton Townships fund and are serviced by a highly trained volunteer fire department. The department has First Responder capabilities and a new fire hall, built in 1991, equipped with up to date fire- fighting apparatus. The department belongs to a county-wide mutual aid system and 911 emergency response system.
AMBULANCE SERVICE: Barnum is part of the Mercy Hospital District and is serviced by emergency ambulance crews based in Moose Lake. Emergency services are but minutes away as the entire county Is connected to the 911 emergency response system. In addition emergency air-lift helicopter service is available.
HOSPITAL/CLINIC: Barnum is part of the Mercy Hospital District and is serviced by Mercy Hospital and Health Care Center. The rural trauma center and adjoining clinic not only provide emergency treatment, but total health care services through a six doctor staff and also health care for the elderly through the nursing home. Consulting specialists are routinely scheduled to provide additional health care needs. Other health care specialties such as OB, chemotherapy arid physical therapy are also available from the local hospital.
POLICE: Police protection for the City and surrounding area is provided by the Carlton County Sheriffs Department. Regular patrols are made through the city and emergencies can be reported by dialing 911.
PLANNING COMMISSION
The city has a planning commission that makes recommendations to the council on zoning and building issues within the City.
CEMETERY BOARD
This eight member board oversees the operation of the Riverside Cemetery in the City of Barnum.
FIRE COMMISSION
A seven member commission with representatives from the City of Barnum, Skelton and Barnum Townships, that make up the Barnum Volunteer Fire Department, help direct the operation of this organization.
RJM PARK BOARD
Comprised of members of the city and the school district, this board oversees the operation of the Robert Johnson Memorial (RJM) Park
