Water and Sewer
The City of Barnum has gone through an extensive upgrading of both its water and sewer systems. A new water tower was added to the system in 1983 and new waste water treatment facilities in 1988. Both systems have the capability for substantial residential and business expansion.

Electric & Gas
Full utilities are available to the Barnum
area. Electricity is provided by Minnesota Power and Carlton County
Co-op Power Association. Natural gas is piped in by Northern
Minnesota Utilities
within the city limits, while private dealers can provide gas or fuel
oil in the surrounding areas.

Cable Television
The City is wired for cable television and available to residences from a private company.
Cellular Communications
Visitors need not be out of touch as a new cellular communications tower west of the city now links Barnum with the rest of the state for cellular communications.
